Sustainable shopping – in our stores & online

Now more than ever, we’re all doing our best to do our bit for the environment.

And from a shopping perspective, for those who may live locally to our Bromyard and Hereford stores, it’s great to see so many of you stopping by in the morning with your reusable coffee cups in need of a refill so you can refuel, and the variety of canvas shopping bags which frequently frequent our counters as we all continue moving away from plastic shopping bags.

Once inside either of our shops, you’ll notice how we’re doing all we can to provide you with the most sustainable shopping experience…

From our fresh meats, seasonal fruits and vegetables, and dairy produce that we source as locally as possible thanks to the fantastic number of farmers and producers we have on our doorstep, to our recyclable food wrapping paper and bags, in addition to our very own branded reusable coffee cups and natural canvas bags available to purchase.

We also hand-pick and stock an array of store cupboard essentials that have been packaged by their owners with sustainability very much at the forefront of their minds.

For example, you’ll notice Two Farmers’ bags of crisps in our shops which are encased in 100% compostable and plastic-free packaging, and Penrhos’ gin can now be found in 100% recycled aluminium bottles (not necessarily an essential we know, but what a brilliant idea!).

Whether you’re located up in the Highlands of Scotland, down south along the coast, or perhaps you live around the corner and would like or need your shopping delivered to your door, you can taste the very best of what Herefordshire has to offer by shopping with us online…

And, you’ll be pleased to know our sustainable initiatives just keep coming when you do!

Once our team has received your order, your items are carefully selected and hand packed into your delivery box. However, this box is not just a regular delivery box – oh no! We have heavily invested in ensuring our packaging is sustainable.

Here’s how:

• The cardboard boxes themselves are FSC certified from sustainable sources and recycled materials.
• We then line them with 100% lambswool from a natural, forward-thinking company called WoolCool. (Once you’ve unpacked your order, you’re welcome to send this lining back to us, or you could use it to insulate your loft, or add it to your compost heap!)
• The accompanying ice blocks found within are full of water, not gel, which you can reuse by popping them into your freezer, or, you can simply pour the water away.
• And once your order is ready for delivery, each box is sealed using biodegradable tape!
