Mother’s Day lunch is served… 4 March 2024 “Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, grandmothers, aunties, sisters, and mother figures who love us unconditionally.” What is Mother’s Day? Mother’s Day, also known as Mothering Sunday, is a dedicated day in the calendar when we celebrate, shine a spotlight on and squeeze that little bit tighter all the mothers and mother figures in our lives! When is Mother’s Day? Here in the UK, Mother’s Day is held on the fourth Sunday of Lent, or three weeks before Easter Sunday. *Diaries at the ready* This year, the day falls on Sunday 10th March. Now although we don’t need a date or a particular reason to shower these special women in our lives with love, who doesn’t enjoy being treated to an extra special, home-cooked meal?! With this in mind, our farm shop teams here in Bromyard and Hereford have chosen the following Mother’s Day lunch ideas that are bound to bring smiles to faces (and you may earn a few brownie points in the process!): 1. Salmon and Dill Burger with Lemon Caper Mayonnaise We had to begin this blog with a recipe from mother, grandmother and all-round Great British icon… Mary Berry, of course! If you’d like to serve that certain someone a balanced, refreshing and filling meal they can tuck into at the table or sit back and savour on their laps with their feet up, we think this Mother’s Day meal is your answer… What’s more, all the family can get involved in preparing it too which will make every bite of smoked salmon even tastier for whoever you have made it for. 2. Herefordshire Roast Lamb with all the Trimmings Spring is just around the corner (hurray!), and it brings with it an array of fresh and in-season fruits, veggies and meats for us all to enjoy once again. British lamb is synonymous with springtime and Easter specifically, so why not treat your mum or the mother figure(s) in your life to a tender, grass fed roasted leg of lamb? Quick and easy to cook, did you know we can handpick and pack a roast lamb box for you with all the trimmings, including: a grass fed leg of lamb, a jar of mint sauce, a packet of stuffing, and a selection of local and seasonal vegetables? Click here to find out more. (It can also be delivered to your door in time for your chef-ing duties to commence..!) Slow Cooker Beef Bourguignon Despite glimmers of sunshine popping through the clouds here and there, the more frequent cold spells still call for soulful and warming slow cooker goodness… And you can always trust a steak dish to pull out all the stops when you need it to! This beef bourguignon recipe by Nicky at the Kitchen Sanctuary is red wine-rich, bursting with braising steak and topped with crispy pancetta – we’ll have seconds please! We all know that slow cooker recipes are great to prepare, pop in, and then let them do their thing, so you can then spend even more time with your loved ones on Mothering Sunday. Rhubarb Crème Fraîche Tart Mother’s Day lunch just wouldn’t be complete without a lip-smacking homemade pud. Taking advantage again of the in-season springtime produce we’re all beginning to see more of and welcome into our farm shops here in Herefordshire, we thought Martin Wishart’s sweet and soft centred tart would round your meal off beautifully. (Psst. Don’t forget you can always buy the pastry if you’re short on time!) If you’re cooking on Sunday 10th March, we hope these Mother’s Day lunch ideas have given you all the inspiration you need to create the mother of all Mother’s Day meals!
