5 summer supper ideas 5 August 2024 Summer 2024 seems to be a little late to the party this year, doesn’t it? However! Seeing so many seasonal delights coming into their own and into our Bromyard and Hereford stores thanks to our local neighbouring farmers, producers and suppliers will be a sight that never gets old. From plump and juicy strawberries and cherries to an array of greenery: courgettes, mangetout, broccoli and more fresh salad leaves than you can shake a stick at! In our latest farm shop blog below, we’ve handpicked five summer supper ideas you can try out and tuck into at home this week: 1. Adam Grey’s spatchcock BBQ chicken In Great Britain we expect to have some showery weather during at least one summer BBQ – it’s not ideal but it’s almost a rite of passage! And regardless, you’ll still find us out there cooking away come rain or shine because you just can’t beat that flavour a BBQ adds to dishes… This spatchcock chicken recipe is fantastically simple, and the marinade and smokiness from the BBQ is a match made in heaven. (Ps. If you’re short on time and don’t have eight hours to marinade yours, you can order a free range spatchcock chicken from us online already marinated in garlic and herb, Thai style or ginger lemon and chilli. 2. Asparagus summer tart This summer recipe caught our eye because no more than five ingredients are needed to make it and you’re almost guaranteed to have empty plates at the end of the evening! Listed with The Happy Foodie, Mary McCartney’s asparagus summer tart is a light yet wholesome dish you can accompany with warm, buttery new potatoes and vine tomatoes. 3. Middle Eastern flatbread with pulled pork Summer evenings should be spent catching the last of the day’s rays, not slaving over a hot stove… So despite the busy winter it may have had, it’s time to unpack your slow cooker and put it back to work! Love Pork’s Middle Eastern flatbread with pulled pork dish is filled with flavour and requires minimal physical cooking – just pop your shoulder of pork in low and slow with the spices before you head out to work and look forward to returning home to an easy summer supper. 4. Crispy chilli beef and beef Chow Mein Tempted by the thought of a takeaway this weekend? Here are two ‘fakeaway’ recipes you can turn your hand to at home. Mob’s crispy chilli beef is their take on a tasty Chinese staple, using rump steaks, and we love how they complement their sirloin steak beef Chow Mein with fresh, seasonal greens. 5. Summer pudding Tis’ the season for fruity sweet treats… And this one brings the best of the berries together to create a dome-shaped delicious dessert. Nigella’s summer pudding recipe may have a few steps to follow, however, it’s perfect for every occasion and once you’ve made one, you’ll be a dab hand at them!
